Hancock Forest Management (HFM) Turned to Trimble Forestry to quickly Implement Paperless Load Ticket Processing When COVID-19 Hit

Hancock Forest Management (HFM) has worked closely with its long-standing technology partner, Trimble Forestry, to implement paperless ticket processing, an important safety measure to help reduce the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, relying on Trimble Forestry Logistics, there is no longer any exchange of paper documents between loaders, haulers, and scale sites. HFM is leading the industry to provide contactless supply chain operations to protect its employees, trading partners, contractors, and the communities in which it operates.
“Safety is a core value throughout Hancock Forest Management (HFM). When the virus hit, we were instructed to transform our log supply chain to a paperless process…and get it done quickly,” said Chris Bailey, HFM Distribution Manager. “Working closely with the Trimble Forestry Logistics team, we were able to get everyone in our supply chain on board and trained, and transition successfully to fully paperless ticket exchanges in a matter of weeks.”
On any given day, HFM approximately 50 logging crews in the field, producing logs transported by more than 150 trucks per day and delivered to more than 30 separate customer sites. The result is nearly 150,000 load dockets created per year, in order to successfully harvest and deliver 3.5 million logs annually throughout New Zealand.
“Our operations touch nearly every part of the North Island. It’s important to do our part to avoid the spread of COVID-19, and going paperless was a key way for us to help keep our employees, trading partners, and ultimately all New Zealanders safer,” added Bailey.
HFM relies on Trimble’s Connected Forest™ Logistics solutions to execute its weekly harvest and delivery wood flow plan. Trimble’s Operations and Dispatch team monitors in-forest log production and log inventories and schedules the haulage fleet. CF Logistics technology facilitates logging production and haulage activity for optimized loaded mile productivity and efficient delivery of customer’s log orders.

Trimble’s Connected Forest adds Paperless Ticket Option
Trimble Forestry today announced that its Connected Forest solutions have added the option for paperless trip tickets to its mobile electronic ticket application for forest to mill log deliveries. The paperless supply chain is facilitated by the Connected Forest Xchange (CFX) platform that allows all supply chain partners to view their load transactions in real-time.
Green Belt, Ireland’s largest private forestry company, recently implemented the CFX mobile paperless solution. “We have been able to go from 7000 paper dockets being exchanged at 135 sites annually, to ZERO paper tickets,” said John O’Reilly, CEO of Green Belt.
“Paperless trip tickets support the broad trend towards electronic records within our industry. It has the added benefit of limiting the potential spread of Covid-19 by removing the exchange of paper documents between the loader and hauler, and between the hauler and scale site”, said Kevin Toohill, General Manager of Trimble Forestry.
The CFX platform, including integrated Web and mobile applications, connects and gives real-time visibility to electronic load tickets from harvesters, haulers, and scaling sites. It improves and speeds up the process for administrators to reconcile delivered loads, manage revenue collection and payments, and provides greater data visibility throughout the supply chain in a completely digital, paperless environment.
